Online Classes Aimed at Adults with IDDs

We are offering the exciting opportunity for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) to learn a variety of fun topics alongside UT student volunteers.

Classes will be held online using Zoom, an online videoconferencing platform. We have taken steps to ensure that classes via Zoom are safe and secure for participants. All students will receive video chat instructions prior to the first day of class via e-mail, and we will spend time during the first class making sure that students are comfortable using Zoom. Occasional student absences are acceptable due to vacations and illnesses.

Our instructors have extensive experience working with adults with IDDs. They share a clear passion and commitment towards opening opportunities for adults with IDD in education and employment. Our volunteers are drawn from a competitive list of undergraduate and graduate students who are on education, medical, or research-track careers. They are eager to befriend adults with IDDs in this social and educational setting.

Due to covid19, we will NOT host an in-person orientation and open house, but the Program Coordinator, Jon Pierce, will be available to answer questions for new students and their families via email at jonps@utexas.edu or cell phone 512-529-9331.

Funding:
• Full or partial scholarships available for adults with Down syndrome via
DSACT or Ruby’s Rainbow.
• Additional scholarships for adults with autism are offered via Autism
Society of Texas.
• Texas DADS and TWC have reimbursed expenses for our courses
